Kolviður was born in our breeding in 2012. He is a son of Akkur frá Vatnsleysu and Kolbrá frá Miðfelli. Akkur is a son of the famous Glampi frá Vatnsleysu and Alísa, who got 9,5 for tölt, trot and impression. Kolbrá is a daughter of Flosi frá Brunnum and has the same mother as Dimma frá Miðfelli, who has given famous offsprings like Díva frá Álfhólum (with 10 for tölt).
At the age of 1,5 years, Kolviður was already the biggest horse in the herd. He will turn 6 years old this summer and is over 150 cm on withers (stick measurement). He is good looking and we find him very promising.
Kolviður is the result of a breeding experiment that we made in 2011, when we lent Akkur frá Vatnsleysu and bred him with mares from the old Hornafjörður bloodline. Later things developed and now we own a part of Akkur and are still breeding our Hornafjörður mares with him. Because we are so glad with the outcome (article on that coming up).
It has to be admitted that it would have been nice to have Kolviður in the breeding, and it was probably a mistake to geld him, especially as there are so few horses left from the old bloodlines. We own his sister Hæra (same mother) and are going to breed her again with Akkur next summer (they already had a son (Heljar) in 2017). Hopefully we will get a similar horse as "Kolli".
Kolviður has a kind charakter and promising tölt. He is probably fivegaited. Because of his size we have taken it very slowly with his training, given him breaks in between and time to gather strenght. Now he will get a break again, as the eider-nesting-season is about to start.
