Now that the eider-season is in full swing we do not have much time for anything else than watching the eider-colony.
Most of our horses are now in Hindisvík on vacation and soon we are expecting the first foals, that we are very excited about :)

Below are pictures taken in the eidernesting colony.

Those signs have been very helpful. Unfortunately the arctic fox can not read it.

On the picture above you can see some part of the most crowded nesting area

We were so lucky to get this great and colorful material from Kidka - the wool factory in Hvammstangi and used it to make these pennants that we have all around the nesting area. It makes the birds feel safe and the predators do not like it. You can see more from the wool factory, Kidka, under this link: www.kidka.com

The male eiderducks always look great, but unfortunately they are rather useless in the nesting process

Each male duck has a female companion next to him, which are much harder to find. Can you see them?

Northern lights over the eider colony 2nd of may
Northern lights over the eidercolony. They were really intense, moving fast and many colours but this video unfortunately only shows a glimpse of how it really was. Taken on a phone with bad video quality.
You might have to turn up the quality of the video. You do that by clicking on the toothed wheel and choose the highest value (HD).

This video is taken 2 weeks after the video above. At the same time; around 02 a.m.
When comparing you can well see how fast the nights are getting brighter.
