Last winter we remade this photograph, which was taken about 50 years ago.
To the left is a son of Skuggi frá Bjarnanesi (Hornafjörður bloodline) and to the right is Glóblesi 700 frá Hindisvík. Riders are Sigurður Ámundason and Sjöfn Halldórsdóttir (Farmers in Þverholt, Borgarfjörður), who bought Glóblesi as a foal in Hindisvík, broke him in and showed him to 1st price before he went to Kirkjubær and later back to Hindisvík when he was 13 years old. We do not have the exact date the picture is taken, but Glóblesi is born in 1964 and because of that we can assume that it is taken around 1970 (he left to Kirkjubær in 1971).
Below is the 2017 version of the picture:
Photographer: Heiða Heiler
To the left is the Hornafjörður horse Nökkvi frá Dynjanda and to the right is the Hindisvík horse Hetja frá Mið-Kárastöðum. Riders are Hanný Norland Heiler and Ástmundur Agnar Norland.
It is likely that this will be one of the last times that two horses with this kind of pedigree will be photographed together. Hetja is pure bred from the old Hindisvíkbloodline back to the year 1880, and you can only find horses from Hindisvík in her pedigree till that time. She is a daughter of Glæsir frá Hindisvík and Hrund frá Hindisvík. Nökkvi is named after his ancestor, Nökkvi frá Hólmi, that you can find 39 times in his pedigree.
It will be hard to keep the bloodlines as pure in the future, because there are so few pure bred horses left. For an example there is only one pure bred stallion left from the old Hindisvík bloodline and he is now 21 years old (Glæsir frá Hindisvík). We will try to use stallions that are as related to the bloodlines as possible, and breed those offsprings back to the pure bred horses we have left.
To mention is that Nökkvi has Skuggi frá Bjarnanesi at least 39 times in his pedigree and Hetja has Glóblesi 700 (who is on the old picture) 5 times in her pedigree.
